The last time the power went out was Thursday night.
Friday, my computer wouldn't turn back on.
Suckage. On the plus side, I had backed up most of my data to an external drive somewhat recently. On the bad side, of course, I had to shell out for a new system. I tried to swap out the power supply, hoping that's all it was, but no dice. And it was an older system, so the power supplies they make today don't tend to fit anyway. So, hello new computer.
I now have a new system, Windows Vista 64 bit.
So far, I love it. I haven't had any issues with it yet, but it IS new, so we'll see how it goes as I use it. Currently it's fast as all hell, at least at copying files and installing programs. I have 4 GB of RAM, Intel Core 2 Quad processor. Speedy-riffic. I've never installed stuff so quickly and been up and running so fast with a new system. I didn't get home and start getting it put together until after 8pm. =)
The other bad side is that I hadn't backed up for a couple of weeks. My convention pics are on that drive. I have to see if the drive is still alive enough to pull the pics back off. Hopefully someone at work can slave it out, as it's an older IDE drive and my current system (and most current systems) won't "talk" to it. It's $100 to get the guys at Best Buy to do it. That's assuming the drive isn't fried. It might be.
I don't care that much about the other misc stuff on there that I didn't have backed up.
Note to self - Lessons learned:
1. Back up to the external drive more frequently, you moron.
2. When the label on the power strip says not to connect two of them together, and not to connect an extension cord to it, don't do those things. Really.
